Read a post saying we are interested in Djed Spence for around 40m. Just wondered if it was true or just clickbait. For me I would of said no until a couple of England games when I saw a different player.

I think after all the press he got at the WC him being linked to top teams was inevitable. I don't think he was good at the WC as people say he was, but he was definitely a level above where he has been for Spurs.

I am not as massively anti-Spence as Ed001 is, I think there is potentially a player in there if he is in a less chaotic environment than Spurs and if he sorts his positioning out. Plus the fact that he can play both sides is a bonus.

But, to buy him now, you'd be paying the "had a decent World Cup" premium, you'd be paying the english premium, you'd be paying the "spurs don't seem strapped for cash and don't want to lose him" premium, and you'd be paying the "player isn't going to push hard for a move because he doesn't seem the sort" premium.

That, plus the fact that he's currently not significantly better than what we have in the squad, makes it all very unlikely I think.

I wouldn't be sad if Spence was a Liverpool player, I would be annoyed if it meant that we prioritised him over other more important incomings.

The question is whether we currently have the environment, leadership, and squad harmony to integrate a player that has had some challenges through his career, perhaps with some being unfair.

I can see the opportunity - home grown, athlete that can play either side, relatively cheap.

He has lapses in concentration, which lead to him losing the ball or his man, more often than not. He is unbelievably quick though, and can usually make up for any mistakes.

If he can keep his concentration and be aware of what's around him when waiting for a pass, he'll do well for any club to be honest.

I'm probably the only one that thought he was useless, but nice tackle in the World Cup.
